Phew!!

WOO! Got the Yuletide fic done and uploaded. There is a god.

Except I've developed rampant paranoia about uploading the wrong file and having missed out scenes, even though I checked and triple checked. Caution is no match for irrational paranoia.

Caution is no match for irrational paranoia.

Tell me about it. It took me no less than two hours to go from opening the upload page to forcing myself to submit the fic.

I eventually had to squeeze my eyes shut and click the submit button without looking. I'm just glad I didn't accidentally hit 'reset' by mistake. ;)

Congrats! I played bounce the plot around with a friend of mine who was having an awful time with her prompts fic for a different exchange. I helped! :P I've been unwilling to put myself through a writing trauma yet. I'm still pretty new to fanfic and writing in general. I just want to have fun... ::hums to the tune of Girls Just Want to Have Fun:: at least for awhile longer

Go you! Will the holidays be boring now?

Well, I still have to finish the Torchwood fic I had to put on hold while I did the Yuletide stuff. I plan to work on it tomorrow. An hour long train journey to the Olympia OB and then three hours between the uplink test and the actual work. Yaylonghand and yaynotebooks.

Writing shouldn't be traumatic. Write whatever you like. There's no obligation to post it. You can sit at home, write that torrid 80 page sappy romance you've got in your head, and then look at it and go "Yep, never letting anyone see that". Sit around with notebooks and scribble. I wrote stuff for about, oh, a year or so before I ever showed anything I ever wrote. :3

The fun bit is the actual writing. Having people read it is just a bonus, imo.

::big grin:: I agree about writing being fun. My problem is, I'm only happy if I turn out the best fic I possibly can at the time I'm writing. I like nailing a plot and getting a character right. Sure, I like folk reading it, but at the same time, I realized when I started that you can't write for comments. I write for myself, and maybe some other folk will like it too.

I know I've still got some things to learn and work out, but I'm always going to put in my best effort when I write. Hmm. Okay, I say that now, but maybe I'll change my mind.

But, the idea of writing to a certain prompt and turning out something on someone else's time frame... that might not be for me. Not sure yet. I don't think my writing thrives under pressure! :P

As for things I won't let people see, I wrote a Star Trek fanfic when I was in high school. omg. I think I've lost it. I can only hope. I know for sure I used the term "beloved Captain". Oh boy. Not gonna share that one.

My first ever fic was a Star Wars/Star Trek Mary Sue-ridden crossover. I'm so glad that the file has been lost.
