Meme-age!

So I'm curious: if a fic concept was a cliche at the height of a fandom, is it still a cliche if that fandom's been dead for... (checks) eight years? *looks at her word doc guiltily*

I think my NaNo thing may be a lost cause. I still wanna write it, but I think it won't get done madly in this months. Ironically, though I think I might make up close to the wordcount across all the different things I'm doing.

So how about that WiP Meme, eh? The one where you post bits from some works in progress? In the name of sanity, I shall restrain it to five.

Five things I'm working on...

1. Earth: Final Conflict "Raido"

Sandoval halted abruptly. Boone kept walking for another few steps before he realised, and was forced to stop and turn around.

"Are you implying something, Boone?"

Boone blinked. He really hadn't been, but Sandoval's reaction in and of itself was telling. "Not at all," he said, evenly, "I assume your motivational imperative is still fully functional."

Sandoval was silent for a moment. "My motivational imperative," he finally said, "Is as functional as yours."

Boone wasn't certain how to take that.

2. Mass Effect "Korexios Drift" (working title)

Kaidan shifted, and looked out into the club. A few metres away, two human women clad in nothing but iridescent body paint contorted in physically unlikely positions on the stage. "Erin'Zorah-"

"Erin," she corrected.

"Erin, I don't know what you think I do, but I'm a soldier for the Alliance, not a mercenary or a Spectre. I can't just drop everything and help you with your Pilgrimage, even if you are Tali's cousin."

"I wouldn't dream of such a thing," Erin said, holding up her hands in mock surrender, "And I do know a great deal about you, Kaidan Alenko. Liara T'Soni's files were quite complete. First let me ask you a question: have you ever heard of the Korexios Drift?"

3. Pern (untitled)

Yuliany was a short woman, her journeywoman knot a pristinely arranged thing that matched the rest of her neatly turned out appearance. It gave the utterly false appearance of her being very prim and proper; Yuliany had been known to come out with things that would make a sailor blush. On this occasion, however, she merely snorted and said, "And Faranth wore frilly knickers."

4. Assassin's Creed (untitled)

Doctor Warren Vidic had refused to change out of his lab coat, ignoring the less-than-subtle urgings of his superiors about 'presentability'. He was a scientist, a brilliant mind, and that should speak to anyone far louder than which tie he was wearing. Besides which, he resented the fact that he'd been pulled away from his work, summoned to this conference room on the nineteenth floor. He had been sitting there, alone, for nearly quarter of an hour, and was very aware that it was deliberate.

He forced himself not to show impatience to the unseen cameras that were watching him, instead making notes on the handscreen he'd brought with him, pretending that he didn't care. Eventually, the clicking sound of stiletto heels on the tiled floor brought his head up in time to see a woman in a painfully smart business suit enter, closing the door behind her.

She gave him a smile that was mostly teeth, and held out her hand. "Doctor Vidic, I presume?"

5. Earth: Final Conflict "Music of the Spheres"

"Pardon, mon petit champignon. Le trafic est terrible."

A short pale-haired woman, roughly the same age as Zoe to look at her, dropped into the seat opposite her friend, an assortment of shopping bags tumbling to the ground as she let go of them. Zoe frowned.

"You're late," she said, sharply, banging her spoon against the rim of her cup sharply. "And don't call me your 'little mushroom'."

At some point, I'll finish these. Honest.
